Hi Marlen, so far in this class I have learned a lot about the deeper meanings behind books and movies. I have to admit that before I took this class it was seldom that I looked into the meaning behind a movie. Monomyth’s and archetype’s are a relatively new concept to me I have been taught a little about goddess and such but never in depth. I often wondered where many of the ideas for movie come from but now it seems I know a majority of them come from old myths.

The second piece of class material that was new to me was the Hero’s journey. The journey that all humans go through has always been in the back of my mind but the steps to every stage was clarified and put into perspective. The readings in the various books we have looked at till this point has allowed me to analyze my life and my journey. I can now think back to specific times where I was side tracked in my journey or progressed forward. Before I began this class there is no way I would have been able to write my midterm paper. I would not know how to look at my life transition from a boy to a man while incorporating the different archetypes I had experienced.

The goals I have for this class are still sort of vague. I know that when the class is complete I want to be able to understand monomyths, archetypes, and the hero’s journey off the top of my head. I want to be able to explain the ins and outs of each. I definitely want to be able to say that taking this class was not a waste of time. I already feel like this class has been beneficial to me and I doubt I will have any regrets about remaining in this class. We will see if I still feel the same way at the commencement of the class.

I can say that I have never been a part of a class structured like this. I like the way we go through the daily activities and the blogging aspect of the class. I have never blogged before but I like it, it provides a place to release some inner thoughts that I didn’t really know were there. My writings in this class have been filled with more emotions and thoughts then I cared to pay attention to before. I must say that this class is a fair amount of work and it is hard to time manage for because sometimes homework is quick and other times it is long. There is a good deal of deep thinking to be done in the class , which I feel is the reason my attention is held easily in this class. Personally I wouldn’t suggest you change anything with the way the class is structured. It does take a little bit of time in the first couple of weeks to find your bearings but other than that once you are in the swing of things it becomes a smooth ride.

The last thing I can think of is a way to make improvements to my grade. At the moment I am still struggling with time management. I need to learn how to space my readings out so that I am not awake till two am every night. I always get my homework done but I could take better notes while I’m reading so as to not forget what I had read when we are doing quizzes. Other than then that I would like to thank you for staying with the class in your belly of the whale adversity that you were presented with not too long ago.

Thanks for your time;

You know it’s funny…somehow, you guys got me through that moment. If you all hadn’t been so connected to what I was teaching, I don’t know that I would have had the same attitude to make it through that belly…so thank YOU!

Marlen
